An exciting new prospect out of the Shadow Law stables is a new label dedicated to rising talents from across the globe. Aesthetics has been set up to break in new names that the common public might not yet be aware of, but will get to know FedEx fast!

Originally, this project was created in early 2007. 001 (Catacomb - Out Alive b/w Dose - Anoxia) was signed early last year, and then put on the back burner. Being as busy as the 'man in demand' is, Mayhem's ongoing workload restricted him from giving it the proper attention a "quality control" + "talent breaking" label deserves. Now with things in a more calm and collected state (and his debut album almost complete!) the time has come to open the flood gates and rinse out the beats.

With 3 official releases already concrete, Aesthetics look to break new boundaries with likes of Equivalent, Engage, Kodin and Scud, aswell as respective new school heads, Catacomb, Dose, Corrupt Souls and Cern making their mark.

AES001 is on test press right now and Mayhem has said things will now move at a speedy pace, so expect to see a consistent flow for the rest of the year. (and if not, send kick-in-the-ass emails to mayhem @ shadowlawrecordings . com HAH!)

Catacomb - The Zodiac (Misanthrop Remix)

By the beard of Zeus! Misanthrop has done it again on the remix tip.

The original has long been one of my favorites from the Catacomb catalogue, and in my eyes, was the first big tune where they really came into their own and identified 'their' sound. A large serving of filth ridden, gutter crawling, rugged chugging minimalistic future funk. (and that's how we like it!)

So if you've copped the two (1 and 2) Bulletproof sets I've recently posted, you would've recognized this track. (trust me) Obscenely powerful and aggressive, it grabs you by the scruff of your neck and throws you into a violent pit of rage and hostility where your sanity is put to the ultimate test.

Catacomb November News Update

Lots of breaking news to pass on so listen up!
Larry has been in high demand and extremely busy over the last 2 months. Locked in the studio and focussed on production, djing has taken a back seat for the time being. He did however manage to make it out for the historic TorontoJungle.com 10 year anniversary event where he played a prime time slot at 1:20-1:45pm. A live recording of the entire event should surface in a matter of days, so hold tight for that.
Now, let's get to the details.

Firstly, if you didn't know, Disturbed Recordings has been resurrected and has seen 3 new releases over the last 3 months. Their latest [DSTRBD011] features Catacomb - 'Euroballs' b/w Rregula & Dementia - 'City Of Dogs'

Next up, Cyanide Recordings has snatched up another Catacomb gem. This time, the rugged, high energy rocker 'Desert Storm' will share duties with a track by Kiwi futurists, Cern. Catalogue number not known at this time.

Over at the Syndrome Audio camp, a bunch of tunes have seen release over the last month. Rise From Ruin 12'', Syndrome Down LP featuring 'Foul Matter', and the soon to be Between The Bars EP, featuring Catacomb and Bulletproof.

PRSPCT Recordings has just seen the release of the Future Filth Ep, featuring the massively infectious 'Gut Wrench'. PRSPCT has also just signed 2 monsterous collabs featuring the Montreal fam, Subtone & Stalker. The 12'' will feature 'Battle Axe' and 'Overfiend'. No audio online atm.

Symptom is the new offshoot lable of Syndrome Audio, out of Holland. The first release see's Catacomb teaming up with Cern for the split 12, 'Bloodmuscle' b/w 'Shuddervision'.

And finally, Flatline Audio has signed 4 tracks for a forthcoming EP in the new year. 'Wipe Your Species' is an early highlight off the unfinished pack, and has become big favorite in Ed Rush's latest sets. Another collab with Kiwi Dave, aka Subtone, 'Stone Rose' also makes note. No audio online atm.

New Catacomb Bio

Spawned from the realm of the underground, Catacomb has quickly infected the globe with a steady increase in potent complex and destructive beats. Originally a 4 man operation, the descent into the darkness would prove to be too much for some, as one by one, 3 of the 4 founding members withdrew from the expedtion. This action left one soul on a lone mission, to further exploration into the ultimate lower depths of the virulent Catacomb. Larry Miller is that soul and the lone keeper of the cryptic beat camp.

2007 has been a breakout year for Catacomb, seeing numerous releases on Syndrome Audio, Citrus, PRSPCT, Shadybrain, and Cyanide Recordings. Also receiving big Dj support from the likes of Pendulum, Ed Rush, Black Sun Empire, Axiom, Mayhem, Bulletproof, Nocturnal, Misanthrop, Quadrant, N.phect, Audio, Vicious Circle and more. Well in demand for the rest of the year and into 2008, expect to see more solo works on those labels and a few collaborative surprises releasing elsewhere.

Catacomb Updates [8-2-07]

About a week ago now, I updated the Catacomb Virb and Myspace pages with some forthcoming audio. Tracks on Syndrome Audio, PRSPCT and Cyanide are featured in the update and are getting a bunch of good feedback on all fronts. (so go ahead and check any of those links for beats.) 'Farewell', which was unsigned at the time of the upload, was instantly snatched up by Marco and Benino at Syndrome Audio. Good lookin out guys! :)

Also, 2 monster collabs have been completed with good buds from MTL, Subtone and Stalker. Interest has been instigated and a few big names have them in their hands. They'll hopefully find a good home in the upcoming weeks, so look for them in the future.

And Finally, Catacomb is now an official resident of DCS905 Toronto Drum and Bass Radio. They've recently restructured their team and weekly schedule to feature residents on a 6 week rotation. So great news, the Cata will be inside CIUT studios, every month and a half! Big up Ty and the crew!!

Syndrome Audio 006

The Syndrome Audio family announce new details on their forthcoming releases. Next up is a solo 12'' by none other than those crazy Canadian funksters, Catacomb. 'Rise From Ruin' b/w 'Doom Riders' will take the # 6 slot in the Syndrome catalogue. (Audio at the Syndrome Myspace)

Also, exciting news to report, Syndrome Audio will unleash their first ever collaborative album, titled 'Syndrome Down' [SYNDROME 007LP], at the end of summer. Featuring the talents of Axiom, Bulletproof, Dose, Psidream, Subtone and the Cata. A HUGE lineup, including 3 Canadian cuts. Top notch as always!

Catacomb European Tour Review

Catacomb Tour Update

Spoke with the boys today, said the Saturday PRSPCT gig went off large. 600+ people inside going nuts. Proper sound system noted aswell. Dylan Nocturnal bussed in from London to chills with them and Simon VC at Gary PRSPCT's pad. Sounding like good times all around. Some plans have changed tho, no trip to Germany unfourtunately. Train tickets too expensive. The boys play a gig in Amsterdam's Red Light District tonite, updates to follow.

Bon Voyage Brothers

The Catacomb European Tour starts today! As I type the boys are enroute from Toronto, Canada to Rotterdam, Holland where they'll be meeting up with the PRSPCT family for their first ever gig on european soil. Over the 10 days, the boys are playing 2 shows in Holland the traveling to Germany for a meet with Phace, then off to Switzerland for a meet with Axiom and the final gig. Stay tuned here for tour updates, details of debauchery, and exclusive photos.

Syndrome004 Announced

The good people at Syndrome Audio have announced the plans for their 4th release. Featuring 2 of the hottest breakout talents in the game today, Phace and Catacomb share duties on this jaw breaking 12''. 'Crocker' is a brand new bit on the edgy space-funk tip by the Phace lads and 'The Zodiac' is a big moody roller with an extra order of filth on the side. [Probably my favorite Catacomb tune to date, as first mentioned back at the begining of December. ;) ] Be sure to click the Syndrome link above for audio previews.

Catacomb Dates, Tunes and More

As I type, Andy Catacomb is enroute from Newark, New Jersey to Portland, Oregon for a weekend of gigs on the west coast. First show, Friday December 15th, in Portland. Second show, Saturday the 16th in Seattle. No stranger's to the west, this is Catacomb's 3rd appearance 'West-Siiiiiide'.

Also, if you didnt know, the boys have a handful of shows coming up in the early new year, and this includes their first ever European Tour. The following is Catacomb's tour dates for January to April in 2007.

January 24th - Pittsburg, PA

February 10th - Rotterdam, Holland

February 17th - Switzerland

April 20th - Calgary, Canada

April 21st - Vancouver, Canada

Also watch for some dates at the annual WMC in Miami.

The production dou of Larry Miller and Andrew Paquet, known as Catacomb, originally formed in early 2005 in a small studio just outside of Toronto, Canada. The 3 founding members, Kevin Cameron is also involved, met at local nights around the GTA and quickly developed a tight bonding friendship that shared a common intrest and love for drum and bass.This quickly led to the studio, where hours upon hours were spent pressing keys and turning out twisted sounds. Drawing on influences from classic metal and hardcore,the crew set out to harness and develop their sound, ultimately spawning a unique blend of raw, aggressive, rolling futuristic funk.

In 2006, Catacomb's tireless and diligent efforts in the studio started to pay off. The boys would see their debut vinyl release on Darkitek Recordings out of Puerto Rico. A collaborative effort with Identity, 'Sadist', was the flip to the monsterous Noisia remix of 'Pressure'. From there, the Catacomb really started to turn some heads. Not only were their tunes being rinsed by some of the biggest DJ's in the game, but more labels came knocking on the crypt door. Signings and releases by Citrus and Shadybrain, as well as their first solo 12'' on PRSPCT Recordings, highlighted a breakout year for the 'Combs. And the hard work doesnt stop there. With all of this buisness going on, they still continue to keep an ear to the ground and help run one of the web's top Drum and Bass resource sites, Dnbnation.com, which they recently relaunched this past September.

2007 already sees some great promise for the boys, with much more starting to surface from the tomb. Their remix to Misanthrop's 'Strange Planet' kicks off the inaugural vinyl edition release of Shadybrain Recordings in January of the new year. Misanthrop provides the massive remix to Catacomb's 'Buried Alive', on the flipside. More announcements are to come shortly, as the lads already have some big things lined up at 2 major labels.

.shadybrain, the leading mp3 label, has officially hooked up a vinyl distro deal [ with much and many thanks im sure to andyslim ;) ] and will soon see the first pressing out soon! SHB001 continues their 'Anniversary Remix Series' with the talents of German powerhouse and man of the hour, Misanthrop, and the new tech kids on the scene (and my partners in crime!) Catacomb. The 2 flipped remix duties on their releases @ .shadybrain, with Misanthrop rinsing out the 'Buried Alive' remix, and the Cata smoothing out 'Strange Planet' remix. Catacomb on DCS905 Radio - 89.5FM

Ok, Big things going down this weekend inside U of T Radio headquarters, CIUT 89.5FM. Andrew's got a 2 hour guest spot lined up from 10-12PM EST and I'll be joining him in the studio along with the DCS905 boys. Quite looking forward to it, as Andy has a ton of exclusives to drop, including brand spanking new Catacomb tracks, that are currently being polished up as I type. Can't disclose any track titles right now, but will say that the boys have some high hopes for these 2 newest bits. And rightfully so, probably their best work to date. Catacomb on PRSPCT

The boys are seeing their first solo 12'' release, forthcoming on Dutch label, PRSPCT. Previous releases on PRSPCT include the talents of Counterstrike, Eye-D, Limewax & DJ Hidden. The monsterous 'Trashmouth' owns the A side with a sinister build to an onslaught of pure impact and devistation. This track is a beast, and wrecks terror upon the dancefloors when dropped. (I've seen it with my own eyes!) The flip, 'Deadlights', is a more subdued, minimal slab of essential funk. Promo expected in November, full release in December. BIG congrats going out to my bro's on this one. Hard work and determination has payed off and you all deserve it!

Bits & Blurbs...

Bagh, this week is dragging [and i had monday off :P], but the end is near. I can see it! So heres some thoughts, links and headsup to help wish the week away...

:the NHL season kicked off last night and i couldn't be more excited to see hockey back. 3 games opening the season, the defending champ Carolina Hurricanes opened against the new look Buffalo Sabres. Game went to a shoot out where the 5 million dollar little man, Danny Breire scored the only goal to give the Sabres the first win of the new season. The Leafs played the Senators in the first of eight matches this year. Sens took advantage of the Leafs mistakes in the 2nd period to pull ahead 3-1 and ultimately take round 1, 4-1. Game 2 goes tonite.

:Catacomb news, the boys see another release set to promo next week. The Lost Boys done with Dementia, from Germany, is coming out on Citrus Recordings, and is the Juiceblender LP Sampler. Big things and more recognition for the 'Combs. Also, be on the lookout for a new mix to drop soon. hawt hawt hawt.

:As i mentioned before, The Killers sophmore album was released this past week. Picked it up and have been playing it non-stop. Quality album. Recommend you pick it up if you like them or even if you dont. I will write a more indepth review [ i promise Biene! ;) ] in the near future.

:Covert Operations had a big week this week, not only did they see there 23rd release [ I co-wrote the press release with James ] and have it go through Nu Urban [ subscription packs will still continue aswell ], but ASC released his 'Research & Development' LP under his moniker 'Intex Systems'. It's pure class and a little diffrent from the norm. Hearing the man speak about it himself has got to get one excited about listening to it...

"I've pretty much spent the last 4 years, on and off, writing this LP (crazy, huh?), and the progression I've made since starting the first track has been immense. I think overall, about 20 tracks were scrapped in the process.

Anyway, let me tell you a bit more about it. Firstly, there's no drum & bass on it and the overall style is hard to categorise. I guess the best way to describe it, is atmospheric, ambient, avant-garde, abstract voyages deep into places you've never been before. It's a total journey from start to finish.

There's no gaps and the tracks flow seemlessly into interludes, soundscapes and stuff I can't even begin to explain. In terms of work, craft and finished product, this is some of the best stuff I've ever written.

I know this is a bit of a bold statement, dare I say it... but it reminds me of the first time I heard Lifeforms by FSOL."
