With the over abundance of new music circulating my head these days, I almost forgot about the stellar release of Solar Empire's debut album, The Secrets Of Time.

The release of the ASC : Ezeekil collaborative effort has been a long time coming, originally signed 2 years ago to Thermal Recordings, the label encountered numerous distribution problems and ultimately went defunct, so the team at Covert Operations took formidable matters into their own hands and released the damn thing themselves!

Covert Operations News

Lotsa good news out of the Cov Ops camp early this week.

Firstly, and most noteworthy, Volume 4 from the now infamous Sci-Files series is out. This edition see's the production machine known as ASC carve your cranium a little deeper with 2 chilling tracks served cold on a block of ice. Check First Snow, paying homage to the film, The Fountain, and Holosphere, an impressive track "detailed and raw with lush minimal atmospheres punctuating throughout". This release is available now exclusively from the Covert Store and everywhere else late August / early September.

Next, the Global Connections series see's the release of Volume 5. Artists on this installment include, Method One, P.B.K., Intersidreal and rising artist Lm 1, plus a load of others. Quality and recommended.

And finally, for the vinyl lovers, COV028 Polar - Sudden Depth b/w Method One - Swing Shift. That's right, Mr. K makes his triumphant return to drum and bass this year with a forthcoming album on Warm Communications and this release on Cov Ops. Buy on sight!

Taking this one into another dimension, Future Engineers rework 'Chasm' into massive sci-funk dancefloor destroyer. An intriguing vocal confession guides the way to the mystery while the atmosphere charges up like power plant, sending shivers down the spine. Strong, hard driving beats combined with large slicing synths, deep end stabs and a massive intoxicating bassline set this one off like blast of dynamite Instant rewind material.

Cov Ops Ltd

Covert Operations are proud to announce their new offshoot, simply titled Cov Ops Ltd, which I'm sure you don't need a masters to realise that it stands for Covert Operations Limited. With the recent problems we ran into with our Limited Edition Vinyl Series, we were left with a few options, one being, scrap the series altogether, another being move all the tunes to CD release only, and the third try and get a distribution deal for a new label to cater for the music we were putting out on this.

So we are pleased to confirm Cov Ops Ltd will be distributed by Nu Urban Music, along side parent label, Covert Operations. We plan to release, in order, the 4 12" singles we had scheduled for our limited edition vinyl series 5, and then more of the quality you have come to expect from us.

Datastream - Heavy steppin intro leads the way to a bridge of a tribal like breaks, combined with an interstellar atmosphere, as only ASC can create. Once it breaks and gets into groove, its guaranteed to get the floor moving and the minds thinking. Brilliant in thought, an epic ambient roller.

Aftershock - Light and steady, giving you a little knock as it drops. Large warming basslines with soothing atmosphere provide the perfect medium. Running glitches add a significant edge to the steppy synths as they fall in line. Always bringing it back to the beautiful atmosphere. Signature staple in the ASC arsenal.

Starbeams - Bouncy uptempo track, its first impression will last a lifetime on dancefloors. Fusing big bounce basslines, waves of clashing synths and intricate tech like attacks, it'll put your senses on high alert and give your reflexes an ultimate test.

As the title suggests, this tune takes you on an epic journey into outer space. Setting an instant tone of ambient bliss, it's progression is something to marvel at. Beautiful pads enlighten the mind and prepare the senses for the voyage, with ASC and Mav piloting the vessel, you're in for a smooth ride. Half way into the trip and you're ready for something more. A welcomed encounter of laser-like synths shake things up and get on the funky side, all the while maintaining that key dream-like atmospheric state that has become the signature mark for the two artists.
