Catacomb on DCS905 Radio - 89.5FM

Ok, Big things going down this weekend inside U of T Radio headquarters, CIUT 89.5FM. Andrew's got a 2 hour guest spot lined up from 10-12PM EST and I'll be joining him in the studio along with the DCS905 boys. Quite looking forward to it, as Andy has a ton of exclusives to drop, including brand spanking new Catacomb tracks, that are currently being polished up as I type. Can't disclose any track titles right now, but will say that the boys have some high hopes for these 2 newest bits. And rightfully so, probably their best work to date. Prepare to delve into the depths of the Catacomb!

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07

So I read the review on Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 in The Star today, and was most surprised to read that one of the new courses featured in this years edition, just so happens to be my old home course, Glen Abbey. (How fucking cool is that!)
My former place of employment, I dedicated 5 years of my life to this course. I know each and every angle to it like the back of my hand. I've played it numerous times in real life, carding some fair rounds and of course, some real brutal rounds. AHHH the game of golf. ;) So as you might guess, I'm pretty hyped to play this game! Released Novemeber 17, 07. It will be mine!!!

Implex Coming To Canada

In distant 1983 at the secret lab of one mighty corporation there was produced the 1st self-educating and self-developing neuro-cyborg 1MPL-3X. This unique specimen has been carefully hiding from the public and the government for 15 years and received permanent experiments and revisions. But in 1999 the cyborg managed to escape and destroyed the lab, killed the staff and disappeared, appropriating the appearance of his creator. 1MPL-3X was programmed to make close study of everything new and thus he devoted himself to the advanced achievement of the mankind- drum and bass. Having connected himself up to the computer, he creates new tracks with the sound so characteristic of him and periodically carries out experiments on people, while playing his music at the night-clubs and releasing on vinyl and CDs in different countries.

News just broke to me that Implex will be making a little trip overseas and to the Great White North in the new year. Gonna make some noise and hopefully get him some bookings throughout Canada in the months of January and February of 2007. If you are interested or know someone in your city who may interested in booking Cyril, please get in touch: srix@dnbnation.com or implexaudio@mail.ru

Implex really started to break through and make a name for himself over this past year, having his tracks released on Fokuz Recordings 'Shape Of Time' on the Discoveries Of The Deep LP, a couple tracks on Covert Operations, 'Oceans Of Oceans' and the stellar collab with Mav, 'Chasm'. He also has couple forthcoming bits on Vibez Recordings, 'I Dissappear' aswell as a recent collab with Voja, 'Petit Beurre'.

Implex also did 2 featured mixes for us at Dnbnation.com, his first one, 'The Dnbnation Mix' was released online in July of 2004 and got noticed instantly. His 2nd mix was more of a spotlight feature on the future forms of Russian Drum & Bass. The 'Russian Invasion On Dnbnation' got a huge response and again opened more eyes to the man. From then on 2 more mixes were released online, 'Sign Me! Book Me! Love Me! Studio Mix' from October 2005 and 'The Russian Hour on Radio Rekord' from July 06. The man is an accomplished DJ from Russia and represents hard. Don't forget to check him on Myspace and get in touch if you're feelin his sounds.

Catacomb on PRSPCT

The boys are seeing their first solo 12'' release, forthcoming on Dutch label, PRSPCT. Previous releases on PRSPCT include the talents of Counterstrike, Eye-D, Limewax & DJ Hidden. The monsterous 'Trashmouth' owns the A side with a sinister build to an onslaught of pure impact and devistation. This track is a beast, and wrecks terror upon the dancefloors when dropped. (I've seen it with my own eyes!) The flip, 'Deadlights', is a more subdued, minimal slab of essential funk. Promo expected in November, full release in December. BIG congrats going out to my bro's on this one. Hard work and determination has payed off and you all deserve it!

SI.com's 'Memorable Brawls'

Who doesnt love a good sports fight? And who doesnt love when the fights get outta control and all hell breaks lose! lol. Well, following the now famous Miami vs. FIU 3rd quarter bench clearing brawl, Sports Illustrated put together a small list of some of sports most memorable brawls. Great Photo's and little blurbs on what went down are included.

One key brawl left of the list that i noticed, was the legendary Canada vs. U.S.S.R from the 1987 World Junior Hockey Championships. Allegedly started with Pavel Kostichkin giving a viscious two handed slash to Canada's Theo Fleury. What happened next was a 20 minute bench clearing brawl that led to both teams being disqualified from the tournament that year. While the Soviets were out of medal contention, Canada was playing for the gold medal, and were leading 4-2 at the time of the brawl.

Reconnected

I swear I've never had so many problems with a cable company, as I've had with Cogeco since we moved into the new pad. We decided to go with them as the previous owner was conneccted with them, so let's make things easier on us and we'll just keep the connection with them switch accounts and things will be just fine.. well not the fucking case! This past weekend, I lost my cable and net connex, due to a work order that one of the technicians had in his hands firday morning, telling him that no one was living in the appartment and he should disconnect the lines.
NOW, I would love to know who the fuck made the call on this one, cause I've been in contact with their SHIT customer service wankers at least 15 times (trying to fix THEIR fuck ups) since I moved in here, which was less than 3 months ago! Those fuckers know damn well that there are people living inside this place! MOTHERUCKERS!!

So this weekend was filled with Movies, as we needed something to entertain us..so heres some quick film reviews, 'Siskel & Ebert' style, incase you're intrested...

*Thank You For Smoking -

*Silent Hill -

*X-Men 3 : The Last Stand -

*The Departed -
(This movie has easily taken the lead in my books for movie of the year. Scorsese at his finest. Jack, big.bad.bossman. and owning the screen. DiCapprio and Damon battling it out and EACH giving huge preformances that are sure to be top highlights in their careers. Wahlberg and Baldwin providing key minor roles to round out the brilliance that this film eats, sleeps, breathes and bleeds. GO AND SEE IT!

and coming out this weekend, The Prestige. Can;t wait!

Circa Survive

About a year ago, Daniel Cyanide linked me to this band and mentioned that I would probably dig the sounds these guys were crafting. So i checked them out, got the album and somehow it managed to take a back seat in my collection. Well these days I seem to have grown bored of my current selections in the rock/alternative category, even after rinsing the new Killers album to death, I just needed a little edge to add to my mind state. So i dug their debut album, Juturna, out from storage, put it on the 'Pod and proceded to delve into the world of Circa Survive. Deep, haunting, inteligent, cinematic-like pieces rule this record and if you're looking for something diffrent, on the experiental tip and totally unique, Circa Survive is where it's at.

Check the video to their single, 'In Fear And Faith', below.

Bits & Blurbs...

Bagh, this week is dragging [and i had monday off :P], but the end is near. I can see it! So heres some thoughts, links and headsup to help wish the week away...

:the NHL season kicked off last night and i couldn't be more excited to see hockey back. 3 games opening the season, the defending champ Carolina Hurricanes opened against the new look Buffalo Sabres. Game went to a shoot out where the 5 million dollar little man, Danny Breire scored the only goal to give the Sabres the first win of the new season. The Leafs played the Senators in the first of eight matches this year. Sens took advantage of the Leafs mistakes in the 2nd period to pull ahead 3-1 and ultimately take round 1, 4-1. Game 2 goes tonite.

:Catacomb news, the boys see another release set to promo next week. The Lost Boys done with Dementia, from Germany, is coming out on Citrus Recordings, and is the Juiceblender LP Sampler. Big things and more recognition for the 'Combs. Also, be on the lookout for a new mix to drop soon. hawt hawt hawt.

:As i mentioned before, The Killers sophmore album was released this past week. Picked it up and have been playing it non-stop. Quality album. Recommend you pick it up if you like them or even if you dont. I will write a more indepth review [ i promise Biene! ;) ] in the near future.

:Covert Operations had a big week this week, not only did they see there 23rd release [ I co-wrote the press release with James ] and have it go through Nu Urban [ subscription packs will still continue aswell ], but ASC released his 'Research & Development' LP under his moniker 'Intex Systems'. It's pure class and a little diffrent from the norm. Hearing the man speak about it himself has got to get one excited about listening to it...

"I've pretty much spent the last 4 years, on and off, writing this LP (crazy, huh?), and the progression I've made since starting the first track has been immense. I think overall, about 20 tracks were scrapped in the process.

Anyway, let me tell you a bit more about it. Firstly, there's no drum & bass on it and the overall style is hard to categorise. I guess the best way to describe it, is atmospheric, ambient, avant-garde, abstract voyages deep into places you've never been before. It's a total journey from start to finish.

There's no gaps and the tracks flow seemlessly into interludes, soundscapes and stuff I can't even begin to explain. In terms of work, craft and finished product, this is some of the best stuff I've ever written.

I know this is a bit of a bold statement, dare I say it... but it reminds me of the first time I heard Lifeforms by FSOL.
"

Audio Preview.
And it's available for purchase NOW direct from the Covert Operations Store

:Fall is upon us here in Canada, and i must say its absolutely gorgeous. My fave time of the year. Love the cool mornings, warm afternoons, possible rainy days, and colorful views. Go and get ootside! <3

:My girl cooks some amazing dinners and wikked cookies! FACT.

:OMG dont look now, Evan I.N.I is back into Drum & Bass. Could it be..I don't know. But it's possible. :P

:And finally, it's Canadian Thanksgiving this upcoming weekend. Big Dinners, family, football, drinks, long weekend, hockey, sleep, food, alcohol, relaxing, food, good times. To all of you, Canadian or not, Happy Thanksgiving. ;)

Andy Warhol / Supernova: Stars, Deaths and Disasters

Guest-curated exclusively for the AGO by film director David Cronenberg, Andy Warhol / Supernova: Stars, Deaths and Disasters, 1962-1964 focuses on one of the most influential periods in the artist's life. Combining both paintings and films, the exhibition features not only well-known serial images of Jackie Kennedy, Elvis Presley and Elizabeth Taylor, but also disturbing disaster imagery that includes car crashes, criminals and electric chairs. The AGO is the only venue that combines Warhol's rarely seen underground films with his painted works. A complimentary soundtrack, conceived and narrated by David Cronenberg, accompanies the exhibition, and features commentary by key players from the 1960s, including Dennis Hopper, Amy Taubin and James Rosenquist.

Yesterday we checked out the Warhol exhibit that's on at the AGO. Was interesting to say the least. 2 room exhibit featuring some select works of Andy's from the early 60's. Real bizarre character if you didnt know by now. His art is simply stunning tho. Real bold and explicit. Catches and holds your attention for time. Jude liked his 'Jackie O' works, i liked the dissaster pieces the most. 'Foot and Tire', 'Race Riot', 'White Burning Car III' were awesome and the 'Tuna Fish Disasster' was kinda hillarious. Saw Dennis Hopper on the famous 'Screen Tests' shots from 1964. Also featured the famous 'Blow Job' movie, it was on a wall with 'Silver Disaster #6 [Electrical Chair screen print] and short film 'Kiss'. All in all, was a bit to small for what i thought an exhibit on Andy Warhol should have been. Guess we'll have to check out the Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh next time we're in that area. [Andy & Jen I'm jealous you've seen it already. Bastards! :P]

Blue Man Group

It was my girl's 24th birthday yesterday and i decided to take her out for a fun evening full of goodness. One of the highlights of our night was seeing the Blue Man Group at the Panasonic Theatre in downtown Toronto. WHAT A SHOW! Full interactive stage/crowd preformance, incorporating music, art, animation, television, signs, paper towels, lights..it was absolutely amazing. All the while these 3 blue guys are starring about at each other, the crowd and the props in the oddest exploritive way, making it both amusing and interesting as fuck to watch. lol. I really enjoyed it. If it's in your area, check it out. It's definately worth it.

Oh, and, how many of you have blown a tire on the highway doing 120 km/h and had to change it, in the rain, on the side of the highway, while dressed in nice gear, hair gelled up, and done it in 10 minutes...? Yes that was me on the way downtown yesterday. Escaping only with a minor wet shirt and some dirt scuffs on teh hands. Everyting else, okey day! ;)

I dodge raindrops and change tires like quick.
